April 29, 2011. To promote our “Philippine Games” Bill (House Bill 809), we held our first “Larong Pinoy” Philippine games festival at Barangay Old Capitol Site in Quezon City, near the University of the Philippines Diliman campus.
Kabataan Party-list is pushing for the revival of Philippine traditional games and sports amidst the prominence of computer games and Western sports among the youth. Kabataan Party-List Rep. Mong Palatino filed last year in Congress the “Philippine Traditional Games and Sports Act” as a measure to preserve and promote Philippine cultural heritage and national identity by mandating the inclusion of traditional games and sports in Physical Education (P.E.) courses in all levels of educational institutions. The bill also seeks to apply the same mandate to sporting activities not limited to sports festivals or palaro and intramurals in schools and those organized by government institutions.
